Stir the Pot brings people together to cook, cultivate community, and inspire activism through the act of preparing food. Just as we’ve become distanced from the way we produce and consume our food, we’ve shied away from political action that moves beyond merely voting or consuming news. Covid has made it even harder to build community in this country. Stir the Pot offers to reconnect us to the joy of food, the work of activism, and each other.

Food feeds our minds, bodies, and spirits and cuts across all political issues. As we share meals, listen to our stories, and sit at the table together, we develop strategies to initiate movements and generate creative action. Come join us in co-creating and learning ways to nourish activism and create a just world through personal and political commitments. To join the movement, visit the Stir the Pot Page here.

Leah Penniman, Co-Director and Farm Manager, (Li*/Ya/She/He) has over 20 years of experience as a soil steward and food sovereignty activist, having worked at the Food Project, Farm School, Many Hands Organic Farm, Youth Grow and with farmers internationally in Ghana, Haiti, and Mexico. Penniman co-founded Soul Fire Farm in 2010 with the mission to reclaim our inherent right to belong to the earth and have agency in the food system as Black and Brown people. Her areas of leadership at Soul Fire include farmer training, international solidarity, perennials, writing, speaking, “making it rain,” and anything that involves heavy lifting, sweat, and soil. Penniman’s book “Farming While Black” is a love song for the earth and her peoples.
